Frequently Ask Questions

What's the difference between DOT and Non-DOT testing?

DOT testing follows strict federal regulations (specific panels, procedures, and reporting requirements) for safety-sensitive transportation employees. Non-DOT testing is more flexible — you can customize the drug panel, testing circumstances, and procedures to fit your business needs and state laws.

We offer 5-panel (standard), 7-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests. We can also add specific substances like synthetic opioids, benzodiazepines, or other drugs based on your industry or concerns.

Yes. Even in states where recreational marijuana is legal, employers generally retain the right to maintain drug-free workplace policies and test for marijuana. However, some states have restrictions on testing for off-duty use. APCA provides state-specific guidance.

We offer urine testing (most common), oral fluid testing (good for recent use detection), and hair follicle testing (detects use over 90 days). Each method has different detection windows and use cases.

That’s your call — Non-DOT programs give you more flexibility. Your policy should define the consequences (termination, last-chance agreement, etc.). EZDOT provides the test result and MRO verification; you make the employment decision.
